Personally, I love this shape, and would love to build one, but I would have to start all over with a new mold and side bending machine

OK, there seems to be another horse in the barn, The Grand Concert (is this a Gibson orig.?) Assuming EVERYTHING is the same on all, where does the Grand Concert fit with OOO,OM, SJ, and J? What is the person looking for playing GC instead of the others? |

Personal size, nice fingerpicker, light strumming, light strings usually. Bought one for my wife several years back and she loves it.... Even had an Olson owner try to buy it from me for his son. Grin. www.taylorguitars.com have some info on their model on the website, or I can walk across the room and measure it for ya. |

I own an Alvarez Yari WYK-1 Grand Concert It fits in between the OM and SJ. Bruce is right It is a very nice guitar for finger picking |

Tracy, it takes longest to draw everything out, and after you've got one half template sorted, you're good to go! This said, I still haven't gotten around to building the bending forms for my two 'new' models, but the molds were fairly painless. Ish. (medium jumbo and a parlour; I want to build a roughlly 15" across guitar as well, but I don't know if I'll go more OM, more SJ, or more Grand Concert. Probably just scale down my GA) You only need to do it once, after all, and you're set to just get on with building. I'm kinda in that 'prep' stage; I want to make a few more jigs (new fingerboard radiussing jig, binding routing jig) and tools (thickness sander), split all the brace stock I have into braces so I can get a feel for the various stiffnesses I've got, and then I can just ignore all the 'boring' setup stuff, and get on with building! I'm hoping to get 3 new ones built this year, in addition to the electric and acoustic I'm finishing (a PRS-style ready for finishing, and myu number 2, the baritone), and the three other electrics I'm gonna be building (an explorer, a strat and a tele) |

Or better yet, just get a copy of the drawing from someone on the forum  I think the most time consuming thing is to make the form and sidebending mold. I'll probably make another Olson SJ on my next since I have the mold and bender. I'll be doing more fancy stuff on the next one...armrest, soundport, cutaway, and it will be a red spruce top with curly cherry back(from Bobc)with curly eucalyptus bindings. Hope this will look nice. Good luck on your builds!

Tracy[/QUOTE] Sounds great! My next (Walnut/Cedar Medium Jumbo) will be wedged a bit (not much, though, because the sides are a bit on the small side..) and soundported, and I'll try an arm rest on the next one I build for myself. |
